Katherine
“Katie” Loretta McBroom loves all aspects of entertainment, whether she is
watching it, writing about it, performing it herself or making it look pretty
backstage.
Like most young girls, her
passion for beauty began with a childhood love of playing dress-up. She
was reintroduced to the beauty industry in 2006 while dressing up on a larger
scale, as a performer at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. There she
received training in wig maintenance and character makeup application by the
WDW Entertainment Cosmetology department.
Katie launched her freelance beauty business,
Katherine Loretta Makeup Artistry, after graduating from Joe Blasco Makeup
Center East in 2007. There she studied under David
Langford (NBC Television Makeup Department, Disneyland Television Productions)
and Ozzy Alvares (Land of the Dead, Spiderman 2, Hostel) and became certified
in all phases of makeup for motion picture, television, theater, runway, and
special occasion. In addition to her professional makeup
certification, she is licensed to practice cosmetology in the state of Florida.
In 2009 she joined The Palm Beach Post staff
after previous stints as an intern and freelancer. She is a beauty product
reviewer on the Gal Friday Product Panel that runs every Friday in the Accent
section. At the Post she works primarily on TGIF, the publication's weekly entertainment
section, highlighting entertainment events. She also collaborates with the
fashion staff by contributing to photo shoots as makeup artist and fashion
assistant.
In the summer of 2009 she returned to the stage
as Frenchy in the Lake Worth Playhouse’s production of Grease. The following
season she was cast as Nora in Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs, also at The Lake Worth
Playhouse.
She hopes to continue exploring the entertainment
industry and furthering herself as an artist. In her limited free time, she likes
to tour the stand-up comedy scene with her funny fiancé.
